15 Years… 15 Most Memorable Signage Projects
Article by Andrew Baohm
This month I celebrate 15 years at Ochre Digital. To celebrate this milestone anniversary, I thought I would reflect on what we’ve achieved in the past 15 years and the many great signage projects we have completed. I have compiled 15 of my most memorable projects (in no particular order) and thought I would share them with you.
Thank you to all of the clients and staff that I have worked with along the way. I am very proud of the work we have provided and look forward to more exciting printing and signage projects in the future.
1. Sir Donald Bradman Museum – Adelaide Oval
This is one of South Australia’s most significant interpretive reflections, remembering one of its best sporting icons now housed at one of the most loved stadiums in the world. I was lucky to be involved in the Bradman collection when it was at the State Library, but to be chosen to be involved in this project at the Adelaide Oval was certainly a great honour.
2. SANFL Museum – Adelaide Oval

Having the opportunity to play in the SANFL league as a junior and represent South Australia was a very exciting time in my life. When the opportunity was presented to us to work on the SANFL Museum at Adelaide Oval I was again delighted that Ochre Digital would be involved, so no doubt this will always feature in my favourite projects.
3. UniSA Business School – Adelaide

UniSA Business School was a great opportunity to showcase our skills and capabilities in all areas of this project. It is always great to walk into a blank canvas and apply our print and signage elements to create a modern and creative learning space.
4. Zings Flashing Cricket Bails

I am always excited to have the opportunity to work on confidential projects before they are released to the public. Ochre Digital worked with Zing International on the Zing Bail project from its inception. This system has revolutionised the short form of cricket and created excitement and entertainment around the world.
5. McDonald’s – Port Adelaide

Ochre Digital has been lucky over the last decade to work on the fit outs for the majority of McDonald’s Restaurants in South Australia. It is a great honour that a company like McDonald’s values the quality and expertise that goes into creating these visually exciting and durable graphics for their restaurants.
6. Hardy’s Wine – McLaren Vale

Ochre Digital has worked with some of South Australia’s largest wine producers over the years. My love of museum and interpretive work sees this one in my top 15 because of the significance the Hardy family has had on this great industry.
7. Holden Commodore Exhibition – Elizabeth

There was no greater manufacturing icon in this country than Holden and I’m proud to say I played a part in some of their South Australian projects over the last decade. It was an honour to be asked to design and produce a final exhibition for Holden’s employees and family members to celebrate their time working for one of this State’s greatest manufacturers.
8. Remember Me – State Library

My previous years in the photographic industry have led to my interest in historical projects like this. The Lost Diggers Of Vignacourt was one of the most historically significant and touching projects I’ve worked on. As a travelling exhibition produced for The Australian War Memorial Canberra, this exhibition would have enlightened many Australians to the Thuillier Family and the fragile link they created between Australian soldiers and their families.
9. Adelaide Crows Museum – West Lakes

This project has a lot of personal significance to me due to my interest and involvement in the football community in SA throughout my life. It is always a thrill when your business is asked to utilise its expertise in providing the signage elements to showcase the history of a football club as big as the Adelaide Crows.
10. IKEA – Adelaide

IKEA was probably the biggest thing to happen in the retail industry in SA. For me personally, it was one of the most significant wins for us as a small business. To be involved in some of the specific signage requirements for the start-up of IKEA in Adelaide was a changing point in the capabilities of our company.
11. Panda Exhibition – Adelaide Zoo

It was a very exciting time in Adelaide with the redevelopment of the Adelaide Zoo and the new purpose built facility to house one of the world’s most endangered species. The invitation to provide signage for the Panda exhibit was a great opportunity for Ochre Digital to do a significant project for an organisation close to my heart – I completed my work experience at Adelaide Zoo when I was at school and always wanted to work there.
12. A is for Animals Exhibition – Australian War Memorial, Canberra

Ochre Digital has been fortunate enough to work on many travelling exhibitions with the Australian War Memorial but this is definitely my favourite. For the first time, this exhibition was designed and aimed purely for the museum’s large audience of school groups and children. It was also a great opportunity to showcase our skills on another interstate project.
13. Royal Visit – City of Playford

I have been to a lot of meetings to be briefed on projects but the invite by the City of Playford to design and produce a series of displays and signage as part of a Royal Visit from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge caught me a bit by surprise. It was a great opportunity to present the history and the future of Elizabeth in freestanding displays and work amongst the protocol and security required for an exciting occasion such as this.
14. Kauwi Interpretive Centre – Desalination Plant

This was definitely one of our most challenging projects as the production methods required to produce this display were very specific. The detail and quality of this project played an important part in Ochre Digital pushing into and succeeding in what is sometimes the unknown. I am very proud of the results and the hard work that went into making our part of this project the success that it was.
15. Childhood Cancer – Clipsal 500

Ochre Digital sponsors and supports many charities, so when the opportunity arose to continue our support of the Childhood Cancer Association by way of wrapping Sam Powers’ Porsche for the Carerra Cup Championship, it didn’t take much convincing. Being able to support this great organisation along with my passion of motor sport was a perfect partnership and an enjoyable project to be involved in.
